Obituary of James Hawkins

James L. Hawkins, known by many as "Jack", of Addison, NY passed away in Corning, NY on November 25, 2018.

James was the youngest son of the late Elmer D. and Madge Shumway Hawkins.  In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his brother, William; sister in law, Phyllis and nephew, Bruce Hawkins.

He was born in Addison in 1937. In his early years, he lived in Presho and Cameron Mills, NY, most of his adult life was spent in Addison.

He graduated from Addison Central High School in 1954 and SUNY College of Technology Alfred in 1956. He was an employee of Addison First National Bank and Corning Inc. Federal Credit Union, retiring from the Credit Union in 1991.

His interest in local history was reflected in several of his paintings of Addison Victorian homes, Churches and area landmarks. A collection of his original artwork was presented to the residents of Addison in memory of his parents. He was instrumental in Addison's yearlong Bicentennial Celebration in 2008 and in forming the Addison Ambassadors Civic Organization.

James had been a member of Addison Presbyterian Church from birth.

Survivors include a brother: Robert of Attica; nieces: Patricia Fernaays of Leroy and Sue Hawkins of Attica; nephews: Robert K. Hawkins of Attica and Stuart Hawkins of Arizona, many great nieces and nephews and several cousins in the area.

Family and friends are invited to call at Carpenter-Flint Funeral Home, 10 Wall Street, Addison, NY on Sunday, December 2, 2018 from Noon-2:00pm. A funeral service will  immediately follow at 2:00pm with Rev. Mark Flandreau officiating. Interment will be in the Townline Cemetery in Cameron Mills, NY.
