Obituary of Daniel Fraser

Daniel Frank Fraser of Horseheads, NY passed away Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at the Chemung County Nursing Facility, at the age of 92.


Daniel (Dan) was the first born son of Frank and Carrie Luther Fraser Anderson.  He is survived by Herbert (Betty) Fraser, Patricia (Richard) Fraser Price, Frank (Connie) Fraser, and Ernest (Martha) Anderson.  Predeceased by Leon Fraser (2016) and Lois Fraser Haynes (2017.)


Dan enlisted at the age of 17, served in the U.S. Navy (1943-1946) mostly in the South Pacific on a heavy cruiser, USS Chester, and earned 13 battle stars.  Awarded WWII Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal with 1 Silver and 3 Bronze Stars, Navy Occupation Service Medal with Clasp, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Star, Philippine Presidential Unit Citation, and Combat Action Ribbon.


After an honorable discharge from the Navy, he graduated from Cornell University where he worked in Animal Husbandry, later with Metropolitan Insurance and retiring from Lutheran Brotherhood Insurance, now known as Thrivent Financial.


Dan was very active working with youth and organized one of the first youth baseball teams in Corning, NY. He served as a Commander and Chief of the Bath American Legion and held office in many other organizations in Corning and Bath, NY.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and canoeing in the Adirondacks with his wife, traveling, reading and doing Cross Word Puzzles, using pen, not pencil!


His main dedication was to Faith Lutheran Church, Corning, NY, where he served for many years as Congregational President, Elder and teacher.


Dan is survived by his wife Jean; five children: Timothy (Cyndi) Fraser, Sherry (John) Fraser Pulvermiller, Lisa Fraser Horner, Thomas Fraser and Michael Fraser and two step children, Alan Cooper and Diann (Michael) Burgey; 17 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.


Service will be held at Carpenter’s Funeral Home, 14 E. Pulteney Street, Corning, NY on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 11am.  Burial will immediately follow at West Hill Cemetery, 10276 West Hill Road, Painted Post, NY. 


In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Faith Lutheran Church, 71 W. First St., Corning, NY 14830.


A thank you to all family, friends, and care givers who helped make Dan’s journey through his life a very pleasant one.
