Iona May Stevens, age 88, of Corning, NY passed away on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at the home of her daughter and son in law. Iona was born January 7, 1930 in Corning, NY to Melvin George and Hazel (Leonard) Maynard.
Iona worked for Snyder’s Bottled Gas as a secretary for many years. She later became a gaffer and retired from Corning Glass Works. Always putting others first, Iona volunteered at Bath VA. She enjoyed bring joy to others, often sharing her baking skills with the veterans. She was the president of the VFW Post 524 Woman’s Auxiliary which was a post she took very seriously. Iona was blessed with many friends throughout the years.
She is survived by three children: Cheryl (Ronald) Fulkerson of Corning, NY, Carl (Glenda) Alve of Greensburg, KY ,Cynthia Bradshaw of Painted Post, NY; three sisters: Jean Tarcza of CA and Marian Krevey of Erwin, NY; grandchildren: Mathew (Amy) Fulkerson, John Bart Jr., Eric (Christine) Grover, Danielle Grover, Casey (Willis) Meeks, Terry Stevens II, Amanda Swanson; sister in law: Yvonne Cooley; along with several other grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and many special friends.
Along with her parents she is predeceased by her two children, Terry Stevens and Debbie Grover; brother: Melvin Maynard; sisters: Elnora Decker, Ruth Potts, and Mary Austin.
Burial will be in Oldfield Cemetery, State Route 414 Hornby, NY on Friday, August 31, 2018 at 1:00pm.
Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life for Iona at the VFW Post 524, 281 Baker Street, Corning, NY at 3:00pm following the burial.
