Obituary of Wilford Hilk
Wilford Paul Hilk, age 89, of Bath passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at Ira Davenport, Bath.
Paul was born June 27, 1916 in Corning, NY the son of the late William F. and Maude (Roland) Hilk. He graduated from Corning Free Academy High School and went on to join the US Army in 1941. He fought in WWII and after the war ended he re-enlisted with the US Air Force and became a Lieutenant Colonel until his retirement in 1960. After his retirement from the military, Paul took a job with NASA at the Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston, TX as a Security Specialist. On October 9, 1943 Paul married Catherine Corby in Oakland, California. She predeceased him on August 11, 2000.
In high school, Paul played football and played semi pro after high school for the Corning Allhighs. He was elected to the Corning Painted Post Sports Hall of Fame on March 5, 1988. In his spare time he enjoyed playing golf, carpentry especially making furniture, and playing cards with his wife.
Paul is survived by his son, Paul J. Hilk and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and brothers and sisters in law.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Roland And Forrest , sisters, Hazel, Ava, and Elsie.
The memorial service will be Tuesday at 2:00 pm at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney St., Corning with Rev. Kathleen Turnbole officiating.
Burial will be in Hope Cemetery.
