Obituary of James Thompson
James Jim Thompson 87 of Painted Post, NY loved by many, passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2005 at home.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Frances, his brother Richard (Dotty) Thompson of Oklahoma City, OK, a sister Mary (Don) Wheat of Sonoma, CA, his cousin, Donald Nevins of Tuscon, AZ, four daughters, Adele Soucy of Painted Post, NY, Tish (Greg) David of Morgan Hill, CA, Kitty (Jeff) Thompson of San Jose, CA, and Tam (David) Thompson of Brookline, MA; five grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Jim was a Painted Post High School and the University of Michigan graduate. He was a veteran of World War II, serving his country as a flight instructor and P38 pilot in the Pacific. He was a well known Corning businessman for many years, running Thompson Motor Company. Jims greatest pleasures were his family and friends. He loved Keuka Lake, boating, playing bridge, flying, traveling, Elderhostels, and John Wayne movies. Someone who knew him said he was the most polite person we had ever met a real gentleman.
A Memorial Celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2005 at 11:00am at the First Presbyterian Church of Painted Post with Reverend Richard Hubbard officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Painted Post.
Memorial donations may be made in Jims name to a charity of ones choice. Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Corning has been entrusted with arrangements.
