Obituary of Edwin “Eddie” Batchelder
Edwin J Eddie Batchelder age 83, of Painted Post died Monday, September 12, 2005 in the same home he was born and grew up in. Ed was born on December 8, 1921, the son of the late Fayette and Carrie (Clark) Batchelder. In 1941, he graduated from Painted Post High School. Ed married Dorothy Personius on July 9, 1957 at Congregational Church of Corning.
He was employed by Corning Glass Works. He retired in 1984 from the Sullivan Park Machine Shop after 37 years of service. Ed served his country in the Army during World War II. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and the Moose. Ed felt honored to play Taps for the funerals of soldiers of Foreign Wars.
Music was a big part of Eds life. He played the trumpet in local bands including Art Wexell Band and Phil Arduini Band. He was kept busy in these bands playing various events but especially weddings. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching sports, particularly Syracuse and the Buffalo Bills. But Eds greatest love was his family and he got a lot of joy in playing with his grandchildren and later spending time with his great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife: Dorothy Batchelder; children, Michael (Patricia) Batchelder of Kenosha, WI, Brian Batchelder of Painted Post, and Faye (Steven) Kernan of Painted Post; grandchildren, Karen, James, Andrew, Joshua, and Laura; great grandchildren, Anna and Natalie.
Eddies family will receive friends on Thursday, September 15, 2005 from 12:00 until 2:00 PM at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney St., Corning, NY where his funeral service will follow at 2:00pm with the Rev. Kathleen Turnbole officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Knoll Cemetery, Painted Post.
