Obituary of Butler Jones
Butler D. Jones age 71, of Coopers Plains, NY died Wednesday, July 13, 2005 at his home surrounded by family and Hospice care.
Born in Sardis, Mississippi on January 1, 1934, he was the son of Heiskel Butler and Ruby (Blakely) Jones. Butler signed with the Boston Red Sox in 1953, and played with minor league organizations in Salisbury, NC, Bluefield, WVA, Waterloo, Iowa, and ending with the Corning Red Sox in 1960. He coached Little League and American Legion teams in the area. He served his country in the United States Army, and married Judy Smiley on March 11, 1961 in Corning. He worked for A & P Foods in Horseheads, and retired from the Corning YMCA. Butler was predeceased by his infant son Harold, and a sister Bobby Lea Long.
He is survived by his wife Judy at home; a son and daughter-in-law, William and Charla Jones of Phoenix, AZ; a sister, Anne Jones of Sardis, MS; one grandson, Conner Jones of Phoenix, AZ, mother-in-law, Margie Southard of Corning; several brothers and sisters-in-law, several nieces and nephews
Calling hours will be held on Saturday July 16, 2005 from 4 until 7 PM at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney Street in Corning, where Funeral Services will follow calling hours at 7:00 PM with Deacon Richard Golaszewski officiating. Burial will be in Oldfield Cemetery in Ferenbaugh, NY.
