Obituary of Franklin Champlain

Franklin L. Champlain age 80, of W. William Street in Corning died Wednesday, May 11, 2005 at The Waters Of Three Rivers in Painted Post after a short illness.

He was born in Tuscarora, NY on May 18, 1924, to Ralph and Elvira (Greenfield) Champlain. After graduating from Painted Post High School in 1941, Franklin entered the U.S. Army Air Corps, 8th Air Force and served in Northern France, and received the American Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct, and World War II Victory Medal. He married Beatrice Maxwell on September 22, 1943 in San Antonio, TX. Franklin was a machinist and toolmaker for Corning Glass, and retired in 1986. As a member of Coopers Plains United Methodist Church, he has served in many capacities during the past 40 years, and was a life member of the Crystal City F.V.W. Post 524 in Corning. He was a member of the Coopers Plains Volunteer Fire Department, and served as a President of the New York Penn Firemans Association. Franklin was active with the Painted Post Alumni Association, and volunteered at the Corning LPGA, and spent much time with his family.

His survivors include his loving wife Beatrice at home; three daughters: Candace (Richard) Ellison of Hornby, Cheryle (James) Boorom of Coopers Plains, and Cynda (Scott) Poley of Elmira; one son: Craig (Debra) Champlain of Painted Post; two sisters: Elizabeth (Glen) Silvernail of Bath and Louise (Robert) Box of Corning; one brother: Ralph (Patricia) Champlain, Jr. of Corning; his grandchildren; Carole, Nathan, Matthew, Nicole, Ashley, Geoffrey, Stephanie, and Kimberly; great grandchildren, Troy, Trevor, Meghan, and Tyler; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Joyce Morse.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 3 - 5 PM at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney St., Corning, where funeral service will follow calling hours at 5:00 PM with Reverend David Wolcott officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Painted Post.
