Obituary of Grace Westphal
Grace D. Westphal age 74, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2005 at Corning Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Wheehawken, NJ on June 12, 1930, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Dorbandt. She attended schools in Northern New Jersey, and was married on November 23, 1953 to Charles R. Westphal in Rutherford, NJ.
She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Charles R. Westphal of Painted Post, her mother Elsie Dorbandt, resident at the Steuben County Heath Care Facility, four daughters, Susan (Neal Dufel) Westphal of Galway, NY, Sally (Randal) Krevey of Waldorf, MD, Stacy (Mark) Clark of Elmira, NY, Stephanie R. Westphal of Endwell, NY, one brother David (Pat) Dorbandt of Stone Ridge, NY; six loving grandsons, Christian, Fielding, Justin, Nathan Gavin, and Adam, and two nieces.
After her family was grown, she returned to school for her L.P.N. degree and was the office nurse for Dr J. Oneil in Corning, and retired in 1994 when the doctor closed his office. She was an avid reader, loved visiting museums and old homes and enjoyed the Chautauqua Institute. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Painted Post and the Corning Area Womens Club, Hospital Chapter C, the Christian Womans Club, and Planned Parenthood.
Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Painted Post. A Memorial Service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Painted Post, 130 W. Water Street, at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 30, 2005.
