Obituary of Marie Houghtaling
Marie K. Houghtaling age 82, of Erwin Drive in South Corning, NY died Monday, April 18, 2005 at the Arnot Odgen Medical Center in Elmira.
Marie was born in Corning on August 12, 1922, the daughter of Harvey and the Bessie (Knapp) Kies. She married Ralph Houghtaling on April 11, 1941 in Big Flats, NY. Marie had worked at FoodMart in Corning in the meat department for many years. She loved birdwatching, and volunteered at the Red Cross and the Visitors Center. She was a member of the South Corning Senior Citizens where she had been the trip coordinator, and was a member of the Audobon Society, Historical Society, the Ostomy Club, and the VFW Womens Auxiliary. Marie was very caring person, and loved helping others. Marie was predeceased by her brother James Kies.
She is survived by her husband Ralph at home; one daughter, Donna (Frank Ellis Jr.) Houghtaling of Louisville, KY, one sister: Pauline Ambrosone of Corning; two brothers, Robert Kies of Corning and William (Jackie) Kies of Campbell, several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4 - 7 PM at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney St., Corning, where funeral services will be on Friday at 11:00 AM with Reverend Carol Keller officiating. Burial will be in Rural Home Cemetery, Big Flats, NY.
