Obituary of Robert Rohde
Robert John Rohde, 86 years, devoted husband, father and grandfather, of North Place, Corning, died March 25, 2005 at the Corning Hospital following an extended illness.
He was born on September 21, 1918 in Corning, the son of the late John J. and Ella Cunningham Rohde. Robert was a lifetime resident of Corning and a graduate of St. Patricks Catholic School and Corning Free Academy.
Robert was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church. Robert retired after more than 30 years from the Penn Central Rail Road as a conductor.
Robert was married to Sophie Wojnarek Rohde on October 19, 1946. Sophie passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2005. Surviving Robert are his daughters and son in laws, Patty and Steve Kelly of North Charleston, SC, Deborah and Thomas Myhre of Springfield, VA and Diane and Robert Foulk of Elkland, PA. Grandsons; Louie Spaccio of Melbourne Beach, FL, Kyle Myhre of Springfield, VA and Christopher and Derek Foulk of Elkland. Great Granddaughter Celeste Spaccio of Melbourne, FL. He was predeceased by his son, Robert Thomas Rohde and his brother, Gerald Rohde and sister, Mary Virginia Breuilly.
In his retirement years, Robert enjoyed golfing with family and friends and was an avid bowler and participated in many competitions. He loved meeting and talking with people on his walks around the Corning area. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
His family will receive friends at the Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 West Pulteney Street, Corning on Tuesday, March 29, 2005 from 3:00 5:00 and 7:00 9:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Church on Wednesday, March 30, 2005 at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Marys Cemetery. Donations may be given in Roberts name to the American Heart Association, PO Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 13220-3049.
