Obituary of Irene Smith
Irene S. Smith, age 98, of 169 Decatur Street, Corning died Friday, December 31, 2004 at The Waters Of Three Rivers, Painted Post, NY. Mrs. Smith was born March 1, 1906 at Corning, NY the daughter of the late Daniel Angus and Mabel (Graham) Fraser. She married DeWitt Cricket Smith in Corning in 1925. He predeceased her in 1955.
Irene coowned and worked with her husband at Cricket's Lunch on Pulteney St. in Corning up until its closing in 1955. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where she participated in the Womens Circle and the American Legion Auxillery. She also served as a caregiver for many of her relatives.
She is survived by two daughters: Joan (Robert) Barker of Richmond, VA and Carolyn A. Davis (special longtime family friend Robert Cox) of Corning; eight grandchildren: Elizabeth Willett, Laura Phillips, Roberta Arrington, Benjamin, Andrew, and Darren Smith, Nancy Blank and Kimberly Gerow; eleven great-great grandchildren; daughter-in-law,Sheila Smith Reitnauer; several nieces, nephews and faithful friend Callie Cat.
She was predeceased by her sons, David and William Bill Smith and two brothers: John and Frank Fraser.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 - 7 PM at Phillips Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney St., Corning, where the funeral will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 7:00 pm with Rev. Carol Keller officiating. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery.
