Marilyn Ann Garner, age 83, of Corning, NY passed away Friday, March 2, 2018 at Corning Center For Rehabilitation and Healthcare after a long battle fighting dementia. Marilyn was born June 2, 1934 in North Hornell, NY. She was the daughter of the late Louis William and the late Fannie Ann (Westcott) Vanderhoef. Marilyn married Albert D. Garner in February 1957 in Tuscarora, NY he predeceased her on January 13, 2015.
Marilyn was a school crossing guard and foster mother of many babies. She was a wonderful friend, mother, sister, grandmother and aunt. You could always find Marilyn walking from her home on the Northside bicycle path to West High with one of her many favorite dogs at 6 o'clock in the morning. Through her many stages of dementia, you could always hear her praise God either with a prayer or a hymn. She will be sadly missed.
She is survived by her six children: Crystal VanGelder of Corning, Jill (Duane) Overdorff of Pine City, Steven (Kimberly) Garner of California, Kevin Garner of Horseheads and twin daughters Sharon (Mike) Price and Karen (Tom) Timmerman of Corning; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; twin sister Mary Lou Conable; brother Johnny Vanderhoef and special niece Cheryl Cady. In addition to her parents and husband, Marilyn was predeceased by her sister Joyce Burpee and brother Gerald Vanderhoef.
The family would like to give special thanks to the Corning Center 3rd Floor staff for being so kind and helpful to her and her family.
A memorial service will be held Sunday March 18, 2018 at 2:00pm at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 121 Fuller Ave, Corning, NY. Carpenter's Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Burial will be at Coopers Plains Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
