Stephen P. Soper, age 65, of Painted Post, NY passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at the Bath VA Medical Center.
Stephen was born on March 17, 1952 in Corning, NY, the son of the late Raymond C. and the late Dorothy F. (Slater) Soper. He was a graduate of Corning-Painted Post East High School, class of 1970. He then began a lifetime military career, enlisting in the United States Army in 1971. He spent his career serving his country for both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy retiring in 1991. He then began employment as a security guard for the Seneca Army Depot of Romulus, NY.
Stephen was a lifetime member of the Corning American Legion, John P. Eaton Post, Corning VFW, and the Disabled Veterans Association. He was also a proud supporter of our Country, our troops and our disabled veterans. He had a love for animals, especially his beloved pets, Red and Sweetie. Stephen was a quiet gentle soul who loved his family dearly.
He is survived by brothers and sisters: Dolores Calhoun of Campbell, NY, Frances (Glenn) Jacobus of Lindley, NY, Philip (Linda) Soper of Lake Placid, FL, David (Lucy) Soper of Millport, NY, Kathy (Doug) Kapral of Painted Post, NY and Diane (Philip) Yaw of Corning, NY; sister-in-law, Beverly Soper of Coopers Plains, NY; and 16 nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Stephen was predeceased by his brother, Raymond Soper.
Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 from 11:00 to 1:00 PM at Carpenter’s Funeral Home, 14 E. Pulteney St., Corning, NY. A funeral service will immediately follow at the funeral home at 1:00 PM, Rev. Jennifer Long officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the family plot in Hope Cemetery Annex, Corning, NY.
