Obituary of D. Mahady

D. Bryan Mahady, age 78, of Painted Post, NY went to the Lord in peace surrounded by family on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Lankenau Medical Center, Wynnewood, PA.

Bryan was born on January 3, 1939 in Utica, NY, the son of the late Dr. Stephen A. and the late Helen G. (O'Brien) Mahady. He married Sheila J. Murray on August 31, 1963 in Utica, NY. They were happily married for 53 years and Bryan spent his last years devoted to her care as her health declined due to dementia and Alzheimer's disease.

He was a graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School, Utica, NY, a 1960 graduate of St. Bonaventure University, Olean, NY and later received his MBA from Syracuse University. He joined the ROTC during his years of undergraduate work and served in the U.S. Army as a First Lieutenant, graduating from the Army's Air Defense School.

He relocated to the Corning/Painted Post area in 1972 after working as a district manager for the Chrysler Corporation. He purchased Redfield Motor Company in Corning where he ran the local Chrysler/Plymouth dealership for 26 years, retiring in 1998. Both he and Sheila were parishioners of All Saint's Parish attending St. Patrick's Church and later Immaculate Heart of Mary. He served others through his volunteer care with Corning Aging in Place, Absolut Care at Three Rivers and the Corning Community Food Pantry.

He and Sheila loved the Southern Tier - enjoying boating on Cayuga Lake and skiing at Greek Peak with their family and many friends.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sheila J. Mahady, Blue Bell, PA; Bryan (Eileen) Mahady of Blue Bell, PA; daughter, Diane (Djordje) Mahady-Stefanovic of New York, NY; grandchildren: Jack, Stephen, Erin and Kevin Mahady and Alexander and Natalia Stefanovic.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Corning Area Aging in Place c/o First Congregational Church, 171 West Pulteney Street, Corning NY 14830 or Corning Community Food Pantry 39 W. William Street, Corning NY 14830

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, May 5, 2017 at 9:30AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 115 E. High St., Painted Post, NY. A reception will immediately follow at Sorge's Restaurant, 68 W. Market St., Corning . Burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira, NY. Carpenter's Funeral Home, 14 E. Pulteney St., Corning has been entrusted with the arrangements.
