Marion Olmstead Babcock died Tuesday, January 3, 2006 at Founders Pavilion.
She was born on July 30, 1907, to Albert and Jeanne (McPherson) Olmsted in LeRoy, NY where she also graduated from high school. She received degrees from Elmira College and Columbia University. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Business and Professional Womens Club, AAUW, First Presbyterian Church, and Elmira College Club. She and her late husband, Edward Babcock, volunteered for Meals On Wheels. She came to Coring in the 1940s as a Latin and French teacher at Northside High School and later became a guidance counselor there, and subsequently, at West High School.
Mrs. Babcock is survived by her step-daughters, Sarah Underwood of Corning and Judith Babcock of Rochester; granddaughter Margaret Underwood (Steven) Smith and great grandson John Parker Smith of Minneapolis, and many McPherson cousins including Keith McPherson of Painted Post and Gordon (Elaine) McPherson, formerly of Pianted Post.
A Memorial Service will be celebrated Saturday January 7, 2006 at 2:00pm at First Presbyterian Church in Corning following private burial at Hope Cemetery Annex. There will be no calling hours; friends will be received at the front of the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, friends may make memorial donations to the First Presbyterian Church or Corning Meals-On-Wheels.
