Robert "Bob" Frank De Monstoy, Sr., age 90, of Campbell, NY passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Seneca View Skilled Nursing in Montour Falls, NY. Bob was born February 7, 1927 in Campbell, NY to Walton Llewellyn and Grace (Ludwig) De Monstoy.
Bob served his country during WWII in the Army from 1945 to 1946. Upon returning home he married Janis Mae VanEtten on July 7, 1945 in Painted Post, NY. They spent 61 years together until her passing on November 26, 2006.
Bob was just a young boy when he started working at his family sawmill owned by his father. He bought the sawmill in 1967 and operated it as De Monstoy Lumber, in Coopers Plains, NY until his retirement in 1990.
He was an avid woodworker making many pieces of furniture, and his family continues to enjoy his craftsmanship. He also enjoyed competing in precision shooting competitions, traveling all over the United States and Canada.
He is survived by children: Robert F. (Cori) De Monstoy Jr. of Campbell, Jaclyn (John) Wright of Beaver Dams, Jennifer (Raymond) Carapella of Lawrenceville, PA; brother: Herman De Monstoy of Painted Post; sister: Joyce Tubbs of Painted Post; 12 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Janet LeBarron, and infant daughter, Norma Jane De Monstoy.
Family and friends are invited to call at Carpenter's Funeral Home, 14 E. Pulteney St. Corning, NY on Sunday, February 11, 2018 from 2:00pm-4:00pm. A memorial service will immediately follow calling hours with Rev. Mort Gridley officiating.
