Burton R. Cummings age 84, of Goff Street in Corning, NY died peacefully on Sunday, June 5, 2005 at The Waters of Three Rivers in Painted Post.
Burton was born in Campbell, NY on May 24, 1921, the son of Burton and Flora (Wixson) Cummings. He married Martha Frost on June 1, 1946 in Painted Post. He retired in 1986 from the Hornby Highway Department where he was an equipment operator, and had been Superintendent for 5 years. He was a lifelong farmer, and was a Member of the Hornby Congregational Church. Among his many gifts to his family were a love of dancing, fishing, and spending time outdoors.
Burtons survivors include his wife Martha at home; three daughters: Donna Cummings of Hornby, Linda Gall of Baltimore, MD, and Lisa Frost of Horseheads; two sons, Keith Cummings of Geneseo, and Kenneth Cummings of Spencer, 12 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Burton was predeceased by brother, Freeman DuVall; sisters, Anna Hakes, Kate Morehouse, and Zita Alesse.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 6 - 8 PM at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney St., Corning, where Funeral Services will be held on Thursday at 10:00 AM with Reverend Richard Hubbard officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Painted Post.
