Irene Bliss, age 92, of Corning entered into rest June 1, 2005 at Colonial Ridge in Horseheads surrounded by her family.
Irene was born April 20, 1913 in Corning the daughter of the late Harvey and Hattie (Davis) Folmar. She worked as a head teller for First National Bank in Corning until her retirement.
She enjoyed bingo, traveling, reading, crocheting, and playing the piano. She helped found the Town of Cornings Senior Citizen Group with which she enjoyed playing cards. She was a fan of the Lawrence Welk Show, Liberace, and gospel music.
Irene was predeceased by two husbands, Lester Mattison and Earnest Bliss, a sister, Harriet Stickler and a brother, Harvey Folmar, Jr..
She is survived by her children, Paul (Joyce) Mattison of Horseheads, Richard (Justine) Mattison of Horseheads, Geraldine (William) Bruielly of Corning, Lester (Ethel) Mattison, Jr. of South Carolina, John (Lucille) Mattison of Massachusetts, William (Glenda) Mattison of Texas, and Harvey (Reta) Mattison of Oklahoma; step sons, Ernest (Leslie) Bliss, Jr. and William (Billie) Bliss of Texas; brother, Robert (Anna) Folmar of Wayne; sisters, Della Spart of Corning, Mayola Young of Corning, and Gertrude (Ernie) Burris of Horseheads; 31 grandchildren; 51 great grandchildren; and 20 great great grandchildren.
Her family will receive friends at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney Street, Corning on Saturday, June 4, 2005 from 1:00 until 4:00 pm. Irenes funeral service held immediatley following at 4:00pm with Rev. R. Paul Mattison Sr., her grandson, officiating.
Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Painted Post.
