Thelma J. Tawney, age 88, of Founders Pavilion, Corning died May 21, 2005 at Arnot Odgen Medical Center, Elmira.
Thelma was born August 11, 1916 at Corning, NY the daughter of the late Robert and Myrtle (Cross) Benedict. She married James H. Tawney in 1937 in Corning. He predeceased her in 1994.
Thelma was a graduate of Northside High School and a Homemaker who loved spending her time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchild.
She is survived by her children, Gerald (Mildred) Tawney of Campbell and Marilyn (Sam) Whitley of Muskogee, OK; sisters, Iris Smith of Corning, Beverly Reynolds of Idaho, and Verlee (Walter) Andrews of Florida; brother, David (Judy) Benedict of Corning; three grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one great great grandchild; several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sister Jane McFall of Hornell and her brother Douglas Benedict of Bellingham, WA.
Her family will receive friends on Thursday, May 26, 2005 from 1 until 3 PM at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney St., Corning, NY.
Her funeral service will follow at 3 pm with Rev. Carol Keller officiating.
Interment Hope Cemetery.
