James F. Woodard age 78, of Indian Pipe in Painted Post, NY died Monday, April 25, 2005 at the Bath V A Medical Center.
He was born in Corning, NY on December 5, 1926, the son of Archie and Elizabeth Jane (Allen) Woodard. He married Cecilia Straulka on October 16, 1948 in Savona, NY. He retired from Ingersoll-Rand in Painted Post in 1986 where he had worked as a Design Draftsman. He was a devoted husband and father. He was an avid reader, especially of historical novels, and he always enjoyed a lively political discussion. James served in the United States Navy abord the USS Kiowa in the North Atlantic during World War II. He was a life member of the VFW Post #524 in Corning, and a life member of the Corning Fish and Game Club where he enjoyed trap and skeet shooting. He was aslo a life member of the National Rifle Association. Mr. Woodard was active in church league basketball and was a volunteer in the local Little League. He had been a Sunday School Teacher at the Painted Post Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife Cecilia at home, two daughters: Lizabeth Woodard of Plattsburgh, NY and Jamie (David) Easton of Painted Post; one son, James (Susan) Woodard of Leroy, NY; one brother, John (Cynthia) Woodard of Savona; grandchildren, Ashley Easton, James Woodard, II, Robert (Julie) Harnas, Whitney Easton, and Jared Woodard.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney St., Corning. Burial will be in Seamans Cemetery, Savona, NY.
