Yoko "Cassandra" Cantineri, age 87, of Corning, NY passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at home with her loving husband at her side. Yoko was born in Tokyo, Japan on May 16, 1930, the daughter of father, Takao Takahashi and mother, Tsukiko Abe. She is survived by five sisters: Kieko; Kazue; Sieko; Tokiko and Takako.
She grew up in Tokyo and graduated from Nerima High School in 1947. She married Michael L. Cantineri in Yokohama, Japan on February 17, 1951 and came to America on February 14, 1952. Yoko lived in the Corning area for more than 65 years.
She is survived by her husband: Michael Cantineri; one son: Edward, his wife Ann Marie and one granddaughter, Emily all of Corning; sisters in law: Teresa Locke, Lock Haven, Pennsylvania; Marge Cantineri, Savona; brother in law: Anthony Cantineri, Corning.
Yoko was predeceased by her parents, two brothers: Hatsuo and Shigeru and sister: Reiko; brothers in law: Samuel and Joseph; sisters in law: Mary Cantineri, Frances Cantineri, Joann Sylvester, Josephine Teays, and Cleopha Cantineri; along with many nieces and nephews.
Yoko was a very talented woman whose hobbies included knitting and crocheting and she had great artistic talent. She was also a fantastic cook and baker.
Family and friends may call at Carpenter's Funeral Home, 14 E. Pulteney St. Corning, NY on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 from Noon-2:00pm. A prayer service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours. Burial will immediately follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
